The Secret Commonwealth

Moon Books author Kevan Manwaring (The Way of Awen, Turning the Wheel) has just launched a site exploring the life and work of Robert Kirk.

Here’s a bit from the site explaining Kirk to those unfamiliar with him:

“The Reverend Robert Kirk (1644-1692) is a fascinating, but problematic figure within folklore studies. He has probably been written about more than he has been studied. He is best known for being the author of the monograph, The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns and Fairies – dictated on his sick-bed to his cousin Robert Campbell in 1691, but not published until 1815 (in a questionably-edited version by Sir Walter Scott).”

Kevan has been working on a doctorate in creative writing that has involved extensive research into the life and work of Reverend Kirk, and on this website he’s sharing a wealth of material, including photographs, poetry, folklore and original writing.
