Pagan Portals – Hedge Witchcraft

Harmonia Saille is a solitary witch following a Celtic path. This is her personal presentation on Hedge Witchcraft from her point of practice. That said, I found “Hedge Witchcraft” to be a lovely and well written book that has a very friendly and warm tone. Picture yourself sitting down to chat with a wise witch, or your grandmother, and being told of folk traditions and of magic being done in a very common sense and natural manner, and you will have this book in a nutshell.

One of the things, and there are quite a few, that impressed me the most about Ms. Saille’s book was the emphasis she placed on going out experiencing and connecting with nature directly to nurture your spiritual path as a witch and to develop or enrich your relationship to the Divine. I also loved the sections on tree and herb lore and magic. Very engaging!

And that brings me to the one thing that I didn’t like about this book and the only reason why I gave it four stars instead of five. Moon Books is taking what could have easily been one book and is dividing it up into two, with Harmonia’s “Hedge Riding” being the second. With each book costing almost thirteen dollars, (Hedge Witchcraft itself being only 76 pages long) I really felt the price to be too high for each book. As much as I am looking forward to reading more of her books, I am likely going to wait and look to purchase it as an inexpensive used copy.

I would recommend looking at Moon Books website as this is the first book in a series of books called “Pagan Portal”. There are a great many well respected authors writing a variety of books for the series that I for one am definitely looking forward to purchasing and reading. Diana Jones

A good review, I agree with it, but I don’t understand about the price. It’s £4.99 in the UK, $9.95 in N america, Amazon have reduced it to $3.80, and the ebook is available at $2.99.
