Moon Bard – July

July ….. just a couple this month … thinking of the Solstice just gone and the winter that’s yet to come.

july moonbardGATHERING.

Under dark waves rolling
Come ancient, ocean wanderers
Singing to the World Tree in the night;

Emerald branches weave and waver
Through the still and frozen starlight,
And greenly glint across the land of ice;

From the dark of forest shadow
Comes the voice of Wolf and Raven;
The Eagle cries the howling crags of stone.

See, a figure, skin clad; fur clad;
At the edge of wood and water,
Is calling to the curving light of dawn

While the ancestors are looking
>From the doorway of the barrow;
They watch their children welcoming the Sun.

Watch the line of people walking
From the skin homes of the kindred,
To where the Solstice fire burns on the hill;

Called by reed and hollow bone pipe
And the Reindeer drums of thunder;
A chant of voices marks the Season round.

Greeting spirit sister, brother,
Father Sky and Great Earth Mother;
And all who gather on this sacred ground.

STORM.

A whistling, wailing,
Warring of weather
Breaks the waves
Into a white hot whip lash
Of salt stung crash
Against the shore.

That, raging back,
Sucks the sand down to drown
Beneath the pounding
White horse hooves,
Leaving the bleached,
Bare beach bones,
Broken by
Scars of seaweed.

Bright Blessings,
Martin.
