Moon Bard – December

midwinter
December …. The world waits for the gift of light to return and wears the winter as best it can.
YULE.
This path leads to a golden gift.
The sun breaks free of winters icy rath,
Unwraps the lengthening of days,
And gives the light of life
Once more to earth.
Yet still, that bright brow
Gleams with untried strength,
And doubt remains
That it will stand the test.
That wind and ice
And mire of sleet, may bury deep
The unknown way,
And all conspire to lose
The lambent light,
Within the realm
Of drifting snow.
Yet deep within the white,
There glows the green,
And holly knows,
It must give way to oak.
That hidden in the depths
Of longest night,
There is a gleam of dawn.
WOLF WITHIN.
She gazes out,
With hunters wisdom,
Across the ice bound land.
Spear woman.
Strong,
Like smoky heart of flint.
Hair like flame,
That warms the whiteness
Of her world.
Instinct guides her,
Coldness bites her,
Winter tracks her,
Wind howl
Echoes in the spirit of her,
Like a Wolf within.

And finally for this year, a couple of short verses for your Yule cards … ho, ho, ho!
Jack Frost may rule this Solstice time,
And thickly coat the land in rime,
But springtime buds will soon be seen,
To welcome back Jack in the Green.
………………………………………
Don’t be sad at nature’s seeming death,
She only waits a while to catch Her breath,
Life moves in a spiral not a line,
And snow gives way to snowdrops, given time.
……………………………………………………………………………………………….
Bright Blessings and a Merry Solstice.
Martin.
